Car
From the Battlefields area, head south on the N3 highway towards Port Edward. Continue on the N3 for approximately 40 kilometers until you reach the R61 exit toward Port Edward. Take the exit and merge onto the R61. Follow the R61 for about 15 kilometers until you reach the town of Port Edward. Once in Port Edward, continue straight onto Maurice Road. The Red Desert Nature Reserve will be on your right. There is no entrance fee, but parking may cost around R20.
Public Transportation
Start at your accommodation in the Battlefields area and take a bus or taxi to the closest major city, which is Durban. From Durban, you can catch a bus to Port Edward. The bus ride will take approximately 2-3 hours and may cost around R150. Once you arrive in Port Edward, you can take a local taxi or walk to Maurice Road, where the Red Desert Nature Reserve is located. It is about a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
