If you are traveling by car within the Drakensberg Mountains, head towards the R103 road. From popular areas like Montusi Mountain Lodge, take the R74 towards Bergville, then turn onto the R103 towards Howick. Continue on the R103 for approximately 40 kilometers until you reach the Midmar Nature Reserve entrance, which will be on your right. Look for the signs indicating the reserve. Be aware that there may be an entrance fee of around R40 per vehicle.

For those using public transportation, your best option is to take a taxi or bus to Howick from major towns such as Pietermaritzburg or Mooi River. Once you arrive in Howick, you can hire a local taxi or use a rideshare app to reach Midmar Nature Reserve. It is approximately a 15-minute drive from Howick to the reserve entrance. Ensure you confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

If you prefer cycling, you can bike from Howick via the R103. The ride is scenic but can be challenging due to traffic.
