Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Durban, take the N3 highway towards Pietermaritzburg. Once you approach Pietermaritzburg, take the exit for the N3 towards the city center. Merge onto the N3 and keep following signs for Pietermaritzburg. After approximately 80 km, take the exit 73 for the R56 towards the city center. Continue on the R56, which will turn into Voortrekker Road. Follow Voortrekker Road until you reach the intersection with Zwartkop Road. Turn left onto Zwartkop Road, and the KZN National Botanical Garden will be on your left at 2 Zwartkop Rd, Prestbury. Make sure to check for parking spaces available at the garden, which may incur a small fee.

  For tourists using public transportation, take a long-distance bus from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Bus companies like Greyhound or Intercape operate regular services. Upon arriving at the Pietermaritzburg bus station, you can take a local taxi or rideshare service (like Uber) to get to the KZN National Botanical Garden. The taxi ride will take approximately 20 minutes and should cost around R50 to R100, depending on traffic and the time of day. Ensure you confirm the fare before getting in.
