Emshophi Campsite: A Nature Lover's Paradise in uMkhuze Game Reserve

Getting There

• Car

  To reach eMshophi Campsite from any location within iSimangaliso Wetland Park, use the park's internal road network. Make your way to the N2 highway and head south towards Hluhluwe. Keep an eye out for the signs indicating 'uMkhuze Game Reserve'. Once you reach the turn-off, follow the road until you arrive at the reserve entrance. There is an entrance fee of approximately R60 per adult. After entering, continue on the gravel roads following the signs for eMshophi Campsite. The campsite is well marked, and you’ll find it approximately 15 km from the entrance.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, the best option is to take a bus or shuttle from St. Lucia to the uMkhuze Game Reserve. Several local shuttle services operate in the area, and you can book one that specifically travels to the reserve. Once you arrive at the entrance of uMkhuze Game Reserve, you will need to hire a 4x4 vehicle or arrange for a guided tour to reach eMshophi Campsite, as public transportation does not typically extend within the reserve. The shuttle fare can range from R200 to R400 depending on the service provider.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking to eMshophi Campsite can be a great way to experience the park's beauty. You can rent a bicycle in St. Lucia and cycle along the roads leading to uMkhuze Game Reserve. The total distance from St. Lucia to the reserve is about 70 km, so be prepared for a long ride. Ensure you start early in the day and carry enough water and snacks. Once you reach the reserve, you will need to pay the entrance fee of R60. Inside the reserve, follow the signs to eMshophi Campsite, which is located about 15 km from the entrance.
