Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Vaalwater town center. Head east on the R101 road. Continue on this road for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the turnoff to the D197 road. Turn left onto D197 and follow the signs towards Lapalala Wilderness. After approximately 20 kilometers, you will arrive at the South Gate entrance. Ensure you have a map or GPS, as some sections may not be well signposted. Please note that there may be a conservation fee payable at the entrance, so have cash ready.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, take a taxi or shuttle from Vaalwater to the Lapalala Wilderness area. Arrange this in advance, as options may be limited. Once you arrive at the Lapalala Wilderness entrance on the D197 road, you may need to walk to the South Gate depending on your drop-off point. It's advisable to confirm the exact drop-off points beforehand. There may also be an entrance fee, so be prepared with cash.
