If you are driving, the most common route to Island Lake in Wilderness is via the N2 highway. From Cape Town, head northeast on the N1, then merge onto the N2 towards George. Continue on the N2 for about 400 km. Take the exit toward Wilderness, and follow signs for Wilderness. Once you reach the town, look for signs directing you to Wilderness National Park and Island Lake. The lake is approximately 5 km from the town center. There is no entrance fee for the park, but look out for parking areas where you may need to pay a small fee.

For those using public transport, take a Greyhound or Intercape bus from Cape Town to George. The journey takes about 5-6 hours. From George, you can catch a local taxi or shuttle service to Wilderness. These taxis are usually available outside the bus station and can take you directly to Wilderness. Once you arrive in Wilderness, you can either walk to Island Lake if you're staying nearby or hail a local taxi to take you to the lake. Be sure to check the local schedules as they may vary.
