Bicycle
If you're in downtown Beaufort, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops. Start your journey by heading east on Bay Street towards the waterfront. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Charles Street. Turn left onto Charles Street and keep going until you reach the Beaufort River. Cross the bridge onto Lady's Island. After crossing, turn right onto Sea Island Parkway (US-21). Follow this road until you reach the traffic light at the intersection with SC-802. Turn left onto SC-802 and continue until you reach the entrance of Fort Screven on Tybee Island. Battery Garland will be on your right as you enter the fort.

Walking
From the center of Beaufort, start at the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Head east on Bay Street, and when you get to the end, turn left onto Charles Street. Walk straight until you reach the bridge over the Beaufort River. Cross the bridge and continue onto Lady's Island. Once on Lady's Island, follow the walkway along Sea Island Parkway (US-21). When you reach the traffic light at the intersection with SC-802, cross carefully and turn left. Continue walking along SC-802 until you reach Tybee Island. Look for signs for Fort Screven, where Battery Garland is located on your right.

Take the local bus that heads towards Savannah and ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop for Tybee Island. Once you arrive at Tybee Island, you may need to take a taxi or rideshare service to reach Fort Screven. Provide the driver with the address: Fort Screven, Meddin Dr, Tybee Island, GA 31328. The Battery Garland is well marked once you arrive at the fort.
