Getting There

  • Car

    From Folly Beach, start by heading northwest on Folly Rd (SC-171). Follow Folly Rd for about 8 miles, and it will merge with Maybank Hwy. Continue on Maybank Hwy for approximately 3 miles until you reach the intersection with SC-700. Turn left onto SC-700 (also known as James Island Connector) and follow it for about 5 miles. This will take you across the bridge into Charleston. Once you are on the other side, merge onto US-17 N. Continue on US-17 N for about 5 miles, then take exit 12B for Folly Rd/SC-171 N. Continue on Folly Rd for about 2 miles, then turn left onto Old Towne Rd. The entrance to Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site will be on your right. There is a parking fee of $2 per hour, so be prepared for that cost.

From there, transfer to Route 11 (North Charleston) and get off at the stop nearest to the intersection of US-17 and Old Towne Rd. You will need to walk approximately 0.5 miles to reach the Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site. Be sure to check the CARTA schedule for bus times, as they may vary throughout the day. A one-way fare on CARTA is approximately $2.00.
