Car
From any point within Francis Marion National Forest, navigate to Highway 17 (North or South) based on your location. If you're coming from the north, take Highway 17 South towards Charleston. If you're coming from the south, take Highway 17 North. Once you reach Charleston, look for signs directing you to Folly Beach or James Island. You will want to take the exit for Folly Road (Highway 171). Continue on Folly Road until you reach the intersection with Country Club Drive. Turn left onto Country Club Drive. McLeod Plantation Historic Site will be on your right at 325 Country Club Dr, Charleston, SC 29412. The total drive time will depend on your starting point within the forest but expect approximately 30-45 minutes from central points within the forest.

Public Transportation
If you're using public transportation, you can take a bus from central Charleston to Folly Beach. The CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority) offers bus services. You can board the 20 or 31 bus routes that go towards Folly Beach. Make sure to check the latest schedules on the CARTA website. Once you reach the Folly Road/James Island stop, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles to McLeod Plantation Historic Site along Country Club Drive. It is advisable to use a rideshare service or taxi from the bus stop if you're not comfortable walking the distance. Keep in mind that public transportation schedules may vary, and it's best to plan ahead.
