Getting There

• Car

  If you are already in Francis Marion National Forest, head southeast on the nearest forest road towards S.C. Highway 41. After approximately 10 miles, turn left onto S.C. Highway 41. Continue for about 15 miles until you reach the junction with U.S. Highway 17. Merge onto U.S. Highway 17 South. Follow U.S. Highway 17 for approximately 25 miles until you reach the town of McClellanville. In McClellanville, take a right onto S.C. Highway 45 and continue for 7 miles. You will arrive at the entrance of Francis Marion & Sumter National Forests.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Francis Marion & Sumter National Forests using public transportation, you can take a bus to Charleston, SC. From there, transfer to a bus heading to McClellanville. Once in McClellanville, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the last 7 miles to the forest entrance. Be sure to check the bus schedules for availability, as service may be limited. Costs will vary; expect to pay around $30-50 for the bus ride and an additional $15-20 for the taxi.

• Biking

  If you prefer biking, you can start from the nearest town, McClellanville. Rent a bike at a local shop, and take S.C. Highway 45 heading northwest. The ride is about 7 miles and may take approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on your cycling speed. Ensure you have a helmet and follow all traffic laws. Be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for vehicles.
