Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in the central area of Hilton Head Island, start by heading towards the nearest bus stop and take the Palmetto Breeze Transit bus towards Bluffton. The nearest bus stop is at the Shelter Cove Towne Centre. Board the bus and enjoy the scenic ride. After approximately 30 minutes, get off at the Bluffton bus stop, which is near the intersection of Boundary Street and May River Road. From there, walk along Boundary Street for about 0.5 miles. You will pass local shops and restaurants. Keep an eye out for the Heyward House Museum, located at 70 Boundary St, which will be on your right. It’s a short, pleasant walk and you’ll see the museum’s sign as you approach.

• Biking

  For those who prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Hilton Head Island. Once you have your bike, head towards the Cross Island Parkway and follow the bike lanes toward Bluffton. The ride will take you approximately 45 minutes. As you approach Bluffton, turn onto Boundary Street. Continue straight for about 2 miles until you reach the Heyward House Museum at 70 Boundary St. There are bike racks available at the museum for you to secure your bike.

• Public Transportation

  Use the Palmetto Breeze Transit service to travel to Bluffton. Find the nearest bus stop in Hilton Head Island, such as at Coligny Plaza. Board the bus heading towards Bluffton. The bus ride will take about 30 minutes. Disembark at the Bluffton stop near May River Road and Boundary Street. From there, it’s a short walk down Boundary Street, approximately 0.5 miles, to the Heyward House Museum, located at 70 Boundary St. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance for return times.
