From your location in North Charleston, walk to the nearest bus stop that serves the CARTA (Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority) routes. Look for the bus line 11 (Rivers Avenue) or 10 (Meeting Street) which can take you towards downtown Charleston. Get off at the 'Calhoun St / Meeting St' stop, which is close to the transfer area. Then, transfer to bus line 20 (James Island) heading towards Folly Beach. Stay on this bus until you reach the 'Secessionville' stop. From there, walk a short distance to the Secessionville Historic District, located at Charleston, SC 29412.

If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from a local rental shop in North Charleston. Start your journey by heading south on Rivers Avenue towards downtown Charleston. Continue on the bike lanes available on the East Bay Street for a scenic route. Once you reach the bridge, cross over to James Island. Follow the road signs towards Folly Road and then take a left on Secessionville Road, which will lead you directly to the Secessionville Historic District.

For those who enjoy walking, consider starting at a central location in North Charleston, such as the North Charleston Coliseum. From there, head south on Montague Avenue until you reach the intersection with Rivers Avenue. Cross the road and continue straight towards the Charleston City Market. Once you reach the market, head towards East Bay Street, where you can catch a bus (CARTA) or continue walking towards downtown. From there, take the bus line 20 (James Island) towards Folly Beach, and get off at 'Secessionville'. The historic district will be a short walk from the bus stop.
