Car
If you are traveling by car from Rapid City, take I-90 W from S 5th St and SD-44 W. Continue on I-90 W for about 35 miles. Take exit 61 for US-385 S toward Hot Springs. Follow US-385 S for approximately 15 miles. Then turn left onto SD-34 E. After about 4 miles, turn right onto Fairburn Rd (County Road 1). Continue for about 3 miles, and the Bison Center will be on your left at 43.6507° N, 103.3732° W. Make sure to have a GPS or a map app handy to assist with navigation.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, first take a bus from Rapid City to Hot Springs via the local bus service. Once in Hot Springs, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the remaining distance to the Bison Center, which is about 10 miles away. It is advisable to check the bus schedule in advance and confirm local taxi services to ensure availability.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and wish to bike, start from Hot Springs. Take US-385 N and then follow the same route as the car directions. The ride is approximately 10 miles and should take about an hour, depending on your speed. Please ensure you wear a helmet and follow road safety rules.
Walking
Walking to the Bison Center is not practical due to the distance and lack of pedestrian paths. If you are already nearby, make sure to check local paths or inquire about safe walking routes. However, it is recommended to use a bicycle or arrange for a taxi if you are far from the center.
