Getting There

Walking
From the center of Custer, head west on Main Street toward 5th Street. Continue walking straight for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Mount Rushmore Road (US-16). Turn left onto Mount Rushmore Road and keep walking for another 0.6 miles. You will see signs directing you to the Black Hills. Continue on Mount Rushmore Road, which will lead you towards the entrance of the Black Hills region.

Biking
Start at the Custer County Courthouse located at 420 Mt. Rushmore Road. Rent a bike from a local shop if you don’t have one. Head south on Mt. Rushmore Road for about 0.4 miles, then turn right onto 5th Street. Follow 5th Street until you reach the junction with the scenic Highway 16. Turn left and continue for approximately 1 mile. The Black Hills National Forest entrance will be on your left.
