Public Transportation
From Mount Rushmore, head towards the nearest bus stop, which is located at the Mount Rushmore Visitor Center. Board the 'Rushmore Route' bus that travels towards Hill City. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the latest departure times. Once you arrive in Hill City, disembark at the Hill City Bus Stop. From there, walk east on Main Street for about 0.3 miles until you reach Railroad Avenue. Turn left onto Railroad Avenue, and continue walking for about 0.2 miles. The South Dakota State Railroad Museum will be on your right at 222 Railroad Ave, Building A.

Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and up for a walk, you can hike from the Mount Rushmore National Memorial to Hill City. The distance is approximately 10 miles, which will take around 2.5 to 3 hours depending on your pace. Start by heading east from the memorial on SD-244 E. Follow the road until you reach Hill City. Once in Hill City, head towards Railroad Avenue and turn left. The museum is located at 222 Railroad Ave, Building A, which is about a 5-minute walk from the main street.
