Walking
If you are starting from downtown Custer, head southwest on Mount Rushmore Road (US-16) towards the junction with SD-87. Continue walking until you reach the intersection. At the intersection, turn left onto SD-87 which will lead you out of town. Keep walking for approximately 2 miles. As you walk, enjoy the scenic views of the Black Hills. Eventually, you will see a sign for Custer State Park Visitor Center on your right. Continue walking for another half a mile, and you will arrive at the Visitor Center, located at 13400 US-16A.

For those biking from downtown Custer, start by heading southwest on Mount Rushmore Road (US-16). Follow the road until you reach the intersection with SD-87. Make a left turn onto SD-87. This route is approximately 2 miles and is mostly flat, providing a pleasant ride with beautiful scenery. Once you reach the sign for Custer State Park Visitor Center, continue for an additional half mile. The Visitor Center will be located on your right at 13400 US-16A.
