Walking
Start at the Custer County Courthouse located at 420 Mount Rushmore Road. From there, head north on Mount Rushmore Road for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with SD-244. Turn left onto SD-244 and continue walking for approximately 5 miles. You will see signs for Mount Rushmore on your way. Once you arrive, the Mount Rushmore Profile View will be on your left. Be sure to take breaks and enjoy the scenic views along the way!
Biking
Begin your journey at the Custer State Park Visitor Center located at 13400 Highway 16A. From the Visitor Center, head north on Highway 16A and take a right onto SD-244. Follow SD-244 for about 8 miles, enjoying the beautiful landscape. As you approach Mount Rushmore, look for bike lanes and signage directing you to the Profile View. This route is scenic and allows you to see various attractions along the way.
Public Transport
While there is no direct public transport from Custer to Mount Rushmore, you can take the local shuttle service. Start at the Custer Transit Station located at 1 Custer Avenue. Check the schedule for the shuttle to Keystone, which operates seasonally. Once in Keystone, you can walk approximately 1 mile to the Mount Rushmore Profile View. Follow the main road, SD-244, and look for the signs leading to the memorial.
