Getting There

    From downtown Deadwood, start at the intersection of Main St and Sherman St. Head east on Main St towards the Deadwood Welcome Center. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with US-85 N. Cross safely at the traffic lights, and then turn left onto US-85 N. Follow this road as it leads you out of Deadwood. After about 1.5 miles, you will see signs for Lead. Continue straight as the road becomes Lead-Deadwood Ave. Once you reach the town of Lead, keep an eye out for Roughlock Falls Rd on your right. Turn onto Roughlock Falls Rd and continue straight for about 2 miles until you arrive at the Spearfish Canyon Nature Area.

  • Biking

    If you have access to a bike, you can make your way to Spearfish Canyon Nature Area more quickly. Start at the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce located at 501 Main St. Head east on Main St towards US-85 N, and turn left onto US-85 N. Continue biking for about 1.5 miles until you reach Lead. Once in Lead, take a right onto Roughlock Falls Rd. Follow Roughlock Falls Rd for about 2 miles until you arrive at the entrance of the Spearfish Canyon Nature Area.

  • Public Transportation

    While there is limited public transportation in Deadwood, consider checking for local shuttle services or buses that may operate to Lead and the surrounding areas. Start at the Deadwood Welcome Center and inquire about shuttle services to Lead.
