Rent a bike from a nearby rental shop in Rapid City, such as Rushmore Mountain Taffy Shop. Head south on 5th St until you reach St. Joseph St, then continue onto SD-34 E. Follow the bike paths until you connect to US-16A towards Custer. This route is approximately a 30-mile ride, so be prepared for a longer journey.

Although Custer State Park is quite a distance from Rapid City (approximately 30 miles), if you are adventurous and fit, you can begin your journey by walking towards the outskirts of the city towards the south.
