Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the town of Errezil in Gipuzkoa, which is approximately 20 kilometers from Donostia (San Sebastián). From Donostia, take the N-1 highway towards Irun and then exit onto the GI-20 towards Pasaia. Continue on GI-20 and then take the exit for GI-2638 towards Errezil. As you approach Errezil, look for signs directing you to 'Hernio'. There are parking areas available at the foot of the mountain. Note that parking may incur a small fee, usually around 2-5 euros, depending on the area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Hernio via public transport, take a bus from Donostia (San Sebastián) to Errezil. The bus company, Lurraldebus, operates routes from the central bus station in Donostia. Look for the bus heading to 'Errezil' (line 28). The journey takes approximately 40 minutes. Once you arrive in Errezil, you may need to walk to the trailhead; follow local signage towards Hernio. The walk from the bus stop to the trailhead is about 1.5 kilometers. Ensure to check the bus schedule ahead of time since it may vary, and prepare for a return trip.

• Hiking

  After reaching the trailhead, be prepared to hike approximately 2.5 kilometers to the summit of Hernio. The trail is well-marked and consists of a moderately steep path. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water. The hike typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your fitness level. Enjoy the scenic views along the way!
