The Majestic Bilbao Cathedral: A Gem of Gothic Architecture

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the Bilbao city center, head towards the Plaza Moyúa and find the Metro Bilbao station. Take the Metro Line 1 (the red line) towards Etxebarri. Get off at the Abando station. Once you exit the station, follow the signs to the Bilbao Ría (river). Walk along the riverbank, taking in the views of the city, until you reach the Puente de La Salve bridge. Cross the bridge, and you will see the Guggenheim Museum to your right. From there, continue walking in the direction of the old town (Casco Viejo). You will eventually reach a fork where you can see the iconic Mercado de la Ribera on your left. Continue straight, passing through the narrow streets until you reach the Done Jakue Plaza. The Bilboko Donejakue Katedrala is located at Done Jakue Plazatxoa, 1, Ibaiondo.

• Public Transport - Bus

  From the city center, go to the nearest bus stop and take bus line 58 towards San Ignacio. Get off at the stop called 'Catedral de Santiago' or 'Catedral de Bilbao'. From there, it's a short walk to Done Jakue Plazatxoa. Just walk straight down the street, and the cathedral will be on your left. Make sure to check the local bus schedules as they may vary.

• Tram

  If you're near the Tram stop, take the Tram towards 'Erandio' and get off at the 'Termibus' stop. From Termibus, it's a 10-minute walk. Head northeast on Avenida de Gasteiz, then turn left onto Calle de los Castaños. Continue walking straight until you reach the intersection with Calle de la Ribera. Turn right, and then take the first left onto Calle de La Cruz. Follow this street until you reach Done Jakue Plaza, where Bilboko Donejakue Katedrala is located.
