Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the city of Santander, the capital of Cantabria. From Santander, take the A-67 highway towards Torrelavega. Continue on the A-67 for about 25 kilometers and take the exit towards A-8, following signs for Bilbao. Stay on the A-8 for approximately 10 kilometers until you reach the exit for Santillana del Mar/Cabezon de la Sal. Take the exit, and merge onto the N-611 road. Follow this road for about 5 kilometers until you see signs for Playa del Puntal. Turn right onto Calle el Puntal, where you will find the beach. Keep in mind that parking may incur costs, typically around 2-3 euros per hour.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Playa del Puntal using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Santander to the town of Somo. This bus service is operated by ALSA, and buses leave from the Estación de Autobuses in Santander. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Somo, you can either walk or take a local taxi to Playa del Puntal, which is approximately 2 kilometers away. Walking will take about 25 minutes, providing you with lovely views along the way. If you prefer a taxi, expect to pay around 5-7 euros for the short ride.

• Bicycle

  For those who enjoy cycling, renting a bicycle in Santander is a great option. You can ride from Santander to Playa del Puntal by following the coastal path. Start at the waterfront promenade in Santander and head towards the beach at Somo. The ride is approximately 10 kilometers and offers stunning views of the coastline. Once you reach Somo, you can proceed to Playa del Puntal, which is a short distance away. Be aware that bike rental costs can vary, typically around 10-15 euros for a half day.
