History of Lleida

Lleida, originally known as Ilerda, was an important Iberian settlement that became a significant Roman city. The Romans conquered Ilerda in 205 BC, and it served as a strategic military and trade hub due to its location along the River Segre. The ancient Roman bridge, remnants of the fortification walls, and archaeological sites offer a glimpse into this era.
Following the fall of the Roman Empire, Lleida fell under Visigothic rule and later became part of Al-Andalus during the Moorish conquest in the early 8th century.
