Getting There

Car
From any location in Ampara District, head towards the A1 highway. If you are in the main town of Ampara, take the A1 highway north towards Colombo. After approximately 70 kilometers, you will reach a junction near Dambulla. Turn onto the A9 road heading towards Sigiriya. Continue on this road for about 20 kilometers until you reach Sigiriya. Look for signs indicating the entrance to Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Parking is available near the entrance, and there may be a small parking fee of around LKR 1000.

Public Transportation - Bus
From Ampara Town, head to the main bus station. Look for buses heading to Dambulla; these are frequent and cost around LKR 150. Once in Dambulla, transfer to a bus heading to Sigiriya, which costs about LKR 50. The total travel time will be approximately 2-3 hours. Upon arrival in Sigiriya, follow the signs to the entrance of the Rock Fortress, which is about 1 kilometer from the bus stop.

If you are near a train station in Ampara, take a train to Habarana, which is the closest railway station to Sigiriya. The train fare is approximately LKR 300. From Habarana, you can catch a local bus to Sigiriya for about LKR 50. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes. Once you reach the Sigiriya bus stop, follow the signs to the entrance of the fortress, which is about 1 kilometer away.
