If you are traveling by car, start your journey in Badulla town. Head west on the A5 road towards the town of Hali-Ela. After about 10 km, you will reach Hali-Ela. Continue straight on the A5 for another 11 km until you reach the junction at the town of Ella. From there, turn onto the B16 road towards Wellawaya. Drive for approximately 12 km until you see signs for Hawagala. The last few kilometers may take you on a small, winding road leading to the base of the Hawagala mountain.
