    From the center of Bentota, head towards the main road (Galle Road). You can find tuk-tuks readily available near most hotels or at designated tuk-tuk stands. Tell the driver you want to go to the Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery in Ambalangoda. It’s approximately a 30-minute ride. Enjoy the scenic views along Galle Road as you travel north, passing through small villages and beautiful coastline.

  • Bus

    Locate the Bentota bus station, which is near the main market area. Take a local bus heading towards Galle. Make sure to confirm with the bus driver or conductor that the bus stops at Ambalangoda. The journey will take about 45 minutes. Once you reach Ambalangoda, get off at the Urawatta Cemetery stop. From there, walk approximately 5 minutes along Galle Road; the Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery will be on your right.

    If you’re staying close to the beach area in Bentota and want to enjoy a long walk, you can walk along the beach towards the north. Follow the coastline until you reach Galle Road. This will take around 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you reach Galle Road, turn right and walk for about 10-15 minutes until you see the Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery on your left, just past the Urawatta Cemetery.
