Walking
Starting from Ella town center, walk along the main road (A23) towards the direction of Bandarawela. After approximately 1 kilometer, you'll reach a fork in the road. Take the right path that leads towards the Galkanda area. Continue walking for another 1.5 kilometers. Look out for a small sign on your left indicating the path to Porawagala Viewpoint. Follow this path, which is a dirt road that can be steep in places. After about 30 minutes of walking up the hill, you'll arrive at the viewpoint, which offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding hills and tea plantations.
Trekking
For an adventurous option, from Ella town, you can start trekking towards the hills. Head towards the Nine Arches Bridge and from there, continue up the hill towards the Galkanda region. This route is more rugged and may take longer, but you will enjoy beautiful scenery along the way. Once you reach the Galkanda area, look for local signs pointing towards Porawagala Viewpoint. The trek can take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle in Ella town and head towards Bandarawela on the A23 road. After about 1 kilometer, take the right fork towards Galkanda. It's a steep ride, so be prepared for some uphill cycling. Continue for about 2 kilometers until you see the sign for Porawagala Viewpoint. Lock your bicycle and follow the footpath leading up to the viewpoint. The total biking time should be around 20-30 minutes, plus the walking time to the viewpoint.
