Experience Clippenberg Bastion

Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Galle Fort main entrance, located at the intersection of Church Street and Hospital Street. From here, head north along Hospital Street until you reach the large clock tower at the intersection with Lighthouse Street. Turn right onto Lighthouse Street and continue walking straight for about 10 minutes until you reach the Galle Lighthouse. Once at the lighthouse, turn left onto the coastal path that leads towards the beach. Continue walking along the coastal path until you see the sign for Clippenberg Bastion. The bastion is located just a short walk from the beach, near the cliff edge with a beautiful view of the ocean.

    If you are near the Dutch Reformed Church, walk south on Church Street until you reach the main road. Cross over to Hospital Street and continue straight towards the Galle Fort entrance. Follow the same directions from the Fort entrance as described previously, heading towards the lighthouse and then onto the coastal path. Clippenberg Bastion will be on your left side as you approach the cliff edge.

    From the Galle National Museum, exit the museum and head east on Pedlar Street, then take a left to Hospital Street. Walk towards the Fort entrance. After entering the Fort, follow the directions to the lighthouse and coastal path. This route takes about 15 minutes from the museum to Clippenberg Bastion.
