Getting There

  • Tuk-Tuk

    From any location in Hikkaduwa, head to the main road, Galle Road (A2). You can easily find a tuk-tuk by waving one down or by asking your hotel or nearby shop to call one for you. Tell the driver you want to go to Rathgama Beach. The journey will take approximately 15 minutes. The tuk-tuk will take you directly to the beach area; just confirm with the driver to drop you off at the beach entrance.

  • Public Bus

    To take a public bus, head to the Hikkaduwa bus station located along Galle Road (A2). Look for a bus heading towards Galle or Rathgama. The bus fare is very affordable. The ride will take about 30 minutes. Make sure to get off at the Rathgama stop, which is usually announced. From the bus stop, walk towards the beach; it’s just a short 10-minute walk down the road.

  • Bicycle Rental

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Hikkaduwa. Follow Galle Road (A2) south towards Rathgama. The ride is approximately 5 kilometers and should take around 20 minutes. Watch for signs leading to Rathgama Beach as you approach the area. Once you reach the main road in Rathgama, take a right and continue until you see signs for the beach.
