Car
If you're driving from Matale, head south on the A9 highway towards Kandy. After approximately 12 km, take the turn onto the A26 road towards Rattota. Continue on the A26 for about 23 km until you reach the town of Rattota. From Rattota, follow the signs to Riverston, which is approximately 11 km away. The road will lead you through lush greenery; keep an eye out for the signposts indicating Pitawala Pathana. Upon reaching Riverston, navigate towards M D P Dharmapriya, Attanwela post, where Pitawala Pathana is located. There is no entry fee, but ensure your vehicle is in good condition as some parts of the road may be rough.
Public Transportation
To use public transport, start your journey from Matale bus station. Take a bus heading to Kandy and get off at Rattota. The bus ride should take about 30 minutes. From Rattota, you can catch a local bus or a three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) to Riverston, which is around 11 km away. Confirm with the driver that they will take you to Pitawala Pathana. The bus fare should be around 100 LKR, while the tuk-tuk fare may vary between 500-1000 LKR depending on negotiation. Once at Riverston, follow the local signs directing you to Pitawala Pathana.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Matale. This option provides the most comfort and the ability to stop along the way for photos or meals. The drive will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on traffic. Taxi fares can vary, but expect to pay around 2000-3000 LKR for a one-way trip. Be sure to agree on the fare before starting your journey.
