Public Bus
From Matara, head to the main bus station located on the Main Street (Galle Road). Look for buses heading towards Weligama. The buses are frequent, so you won’t have to wait long. Once you board, the journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at Weligama; they will let you know when your stop is coming up. When you arrive in Weligama, you will be dropped off near the town center, from where you can easily walk to the beach area.
Tuk-tuk
You can find tuk-tuks readily available around Matara. Simply ask a driver to take you to Weligama. Make sure to agree on a fare before you start your journey. The ride typically takes about 25 minutes, depending on traffic. The drivers are usually familiar with popular spots in Weligama, so you can ask them to drop you off at the beach or any specific place you want to visit.
Bicycle Rental
If you enjoy cycling, consider renting a bicycle from one of the shops in Matara. Head towards Galle Road and follow the coastal road to Weligama. The distance is about 10 kilometers and will take roughly 40-50 minutes, depending on your pace. The route is scenic, with lovely views of the ocean on your left. Keep an eye out for signs leading to Weligama, and be cautious of traffic.
