The Serene Charm of Dambulla's River Bank Tree

Getting There

• Walking

  From the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, head east along the main road toward the Sigiriya village. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the Dambulla Road. Turn left at the intersection and continue walking for approximately 5 kilometers. You will pass through small local settlements and lush greenery. Keep an eye out for signs that indicate 'Dambulla' as you approach your destination. After about 5 kilometers, you will arrive at the area around Pothana, Dambulla. The River bank tree is located at WPGF+QWX Pothana, which is on your left. Look for a notable tree along the riverbank.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in Sigiriya. Start your journey from the main entrance of Sigiriya Rock Fortress and head east toward the local village. Follow the same route as when walking, cycling along the main road for about 1.5 kilometers. Turn left onto Dambulla Road and continue cycling for around 5 kilometers. The scenery is beautiful, and you will encounter local wildlife. The River bank tree is located in Pothana, Dambulla, at the coordinates WPGF+QWX. Look for a prominent tree by the river when you reach the area.

• Tuk-Tuk

  To take a tuk-tuk from Sigiriya to the River bank tree, go to the main tuk-tuk stand near Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Negotiate a fare with the driver and request to be taken to Pothana, Dambulla, specifically to the area near WPGF+QWX. The journey should take about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Inform the driver to drop you off near the riverbank where the tree is located. Once you arrive, you can easily spot the River bank tree along the water.
