Car
If you are traveling by car within the Wet Zone, you can reach Sigiriya by taking the A1 highway towards Dambulla. Depending on your starting point, you would typically drive for about 2-3 hours if coming from Kandy. From the A1 highway, take the exit towards Sigiriya (A12), which is well-marked. Follow the A12 for about 20 kilometers, and you will arrive at the entrance to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Be aware of parking fees at the site, which are approximately 500 LKR for vehicles.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those using public transportation, head to the nearest bus station in your area. Buses regularly run from major cities like Kandy and Colombo to Sigiriya. From Kandy, take a bus heading to Dambulla, and once you reach Dambulla, transfer to a bus that goes directly to Sigiriya. The total travel time from Kandy is around 3-4 hours, and the bus fare is approximately 200-300 LKR. Once you arrive in Sigiriya, you can either walk (about 2 km) to the fortress or take a tuk-tuk for about 300-400 LKR.
Tuk-Tuk
If you are already in Sigiriya or nearby and wish to avoid walking, you can hire a tuk-tuk to take you to the entrance of Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The fare is typically around 100-200 LKR from most hotels or guesthouses in the area. Make sure to agree on the price before starting your journey to avoid misunderstandings.
