Written sources and regional tradition link the site with a castellated place mentioned in a 1402 royal letter; local lore gives the mound its dramatic name after a bailiff called Tibrand who, according to saga, met a grisly end during local resistance. Although contemporary documentation is sparse and the physical remains are fragmentary, the mound’s association with unrest in the late medieval period is well established in county records and folkloric accounts.

Tibrandshögen sits amid open grazing land and scattered fieldstones typical of inland Jämtland; from the mound you see low farmland, distant treelines and the gentle rise of surrounding hills. The immediate setting is rural and tranquil, with a sparse vegetation cover that makes earthwork outlines and stone settings visible at close range. Seasonal colours change the mood — lush green in summer, bleached tones in winter — but the mound’s outline remains quietly present in every season.
