In the early 1900s, Böda Kronopark transformed as modern forestry practices took hold in this vast woodland on northern Öland. To efficiently haul timber from dense forests to coastal shipping points, Domänverket constructed a narrow-gauge railway with 600mm tracks between 1908 and 1909. The network spanned 28km, featuring a main line from Böda to Nabbelund harbor and several branch lines snaking through the trees.Two steam locomotives, affectionately named "Mormor" (Grandma) and "Farmor" (Grandma), powered the operations, later supplemented by a diesel loco and worker dressines. These machines chugged through the canopy, laden with logs that fueled Sweden's growing timber industry, until operations wound down in 1959 amid shifting economics.

By the 1970s, the tracks lay abandoned, overgrown by the relentless forest. Yet passion for preservation sparked action: on July 21, 1974, Föreningen Böda Skogsjärnväg formed with the mission to resurrect a section as a living museum. Volunteers labored tirelessly, reopening a short stretch by 1978.Milestones followed—by 1994, the full 4km Fagerrör to Trollskogen route stood ready, complete with restored stations, signals, and rolling stock. This volunteer-driven effort not only salvaged rails and engines but captured the spirit of Öland's logging heritage, turning rusty relics into a vibrant time capsule.

Today, rides aboard original or meticulously restored locomotives pull passengers through Trollskogen's enchanting woods. "Mormor," the star survivor from 1959, belches steam as it hauls vintage carriages along the curving path, where sunlight filters through towering pines.The collection boasts multiple locos, freight cars, and passenger wagons, each with tales from the skogsbaneepoken (forest railway age). Stations at Fagerrör and Trollskogen house exhibits of tools, photos, and archives, immersing visitors in the daily grind of loggers and railmen.
