The hill’s compact network of runs and lifts was shaped for learning and club development, which is reflected in the gently graded family slope alongside steeper pitches used for race training. The layout and facilities emphasise practical, repeatable training rather than alpine resort scale.

The site consists of a small cluster of pistes: a beginner/children’s slope, a family run and a larger training slope suitable for intermediate turns and coached sessions. Slopes are groomed when conditions permit and artificial snowmaking extends the season on key lines. Lift infrastructure is straightforward and visible from the base area, keeping transitions quick so skiers get more runs per hour. The compact footprint makes it easy to watch learners from the terrace or warming room.

Yxbacken’s base area includes a small café and warming hut where hot drinks and simple meals are served, plus a pick-up system for pre-loaded lift passes. On-site services typically include rental equipment and a modest workshop area for basic tuning. Facilities are utilitarian and geared toward day visits and club activities rather than full-service resort hospitality; expect a lively clubhouse feel on busy winter days and quiet, open views on calmer afternoons.

The hill occupies a special place in the local sporting landscape as the training ground for generations of skiers; it is particularly associated with the early development of the alpine skier Pernilla Wiberg. That history is woven into the club culture and the regular calendar of youth programmes, weekend race events and coaching clinics that keep the slope active even when it’s not a peak holiday weekend.

Although Yxbacken is best known for winter skiing, its hillside setting remains a community green space outside the snow season. The slope and surrounding tracks serve for summer training, walking and informal outdoor play when there is no snow, giving the site a dual identity as both seasonal sporting venue and everyday local open space.
