Landsorts Fyr traces its roots to 1658, when Dutch merchant Johan van der Hagen erected the first beacon on Öja's southern tip, enhancing it with mirrors for better visibility. This early wooden structure burned down, prompting a royal decree in 1666 for a sturdy stone replacement. Technological Transformations

In 1840, the tower gained a lantern with rapeseed oil lamps and mirrors, transitioning from private to state ownership. Lamps evolved from rapeseed oil to paraffin in 1887, then 'lux lamps' in 1907—high-efficiency photogenic lights from Stockholm's Lux firm—before electrification in 1938 with modern optics.
