Opened on August 7 with official inauguration by King Carl XVI Gustaf on August 28, it coincided with the Bothnia Line's completion, revolutionizing connectivity to Umeå. This station temporarily became the city's sole rail hub during Umeå Central Station's renovation, handling all traffic for a year.Positioned 2 km east of the city center, it anchors near key institutions like Umeå University and the University Hospital, blending transport with academic and medical life.

Architectural Brilliance in Glass and Timber

Designed by Lennart Sjögren of White arkitekter and constructed by NCC AB, the station embodies contemporary Scandinavian design. Its two-story structure relies on expansive non-reflective glass panels and glued laminated timber, creating an airy, light-filled interior where arriving trains remain visible from nearly every angle.Diagonal timber beams form intricate triangular patterns across the facade, adding dynamic visual interest. Escalators, elevators, and stairs ensure seamless movement between levels, with accessibility at the forefront for all passengers.

Dynamic Rail Services Unfolding

Umeå Östra serves as the primary stop for SJ's intercity trains to Stockholm, featuring Bombardier Regina X55 models with up to four daily services. Night trains operated by Vy Tåg connect to Narvik, Kiruna, Luleå, and Stockholm, splitting or joining at Sundsvall.Norrtåg handles regional routes south to Sundsvall, west to Vännäs and Lycksele, and north to Boden, Luleå, and Haparanda. Sample journeys include 245 minutes from Luleå Centralstation or 60-70 minutes to Örnsköldsvik, showcasing efficient links across Norrland.
