Zürichhorn is a public park and promenade on the Seefeld side of Zurich, set directly beside Lake Zurich. It combines open lawns, tree-lined paths, shore access and a few recognisable landmarks, including the kinetic sculpture Heureka and a memorial fountain linked to the Swiss national anthem. The park feels like a lived-in piece of the city rather than a staged attraction: people come here to walk, sit, picnic, meet friends, or simply pause by the water.

The landscape is broad, mostly flat and open to the lake, with long views across the water and plenty of sky. Mature trees soften the edges of the promenade, while the shoreline keeps the place grounded in a distinctly urban lakeside setting. It is calm without being empty. Zürichhorn has more depth than a standard city park. The area was shaped by the Wildbach delta and later reworked through flood-control and landscape design, with Evariste Mertens and Otto Froebel helping turn it into a promenade landscape while preserving mature trees. Later layers from the 1939 national exhibition era and the G59 garden exhibition remain part of its identity. That history is not presented as a museum narrative; instead, it shows up in the park’s layout, monuments and long-established public use. The result is a green space that feels settled, functional and distinctly Zurich.

Practical expectations

Zürichhorn is easy to reach by tram, bus, on foot, by bike or by boat connections linked into the city network. It is a low-cost stop, since the park itself is free and spending is optional. Facilities are basic but useful, with toilets, seating, picnic space and nearby food options. The park is best in mild to warm weather, especially from late spring through early autumn, when the lawns and lakeshore are most inviting. In winter it remains a worthwhile short stop, but the experience is shorter and more weather-dependent.
