Car
If you are traveling by car, begin your journey from Moshi, which is a common starting point for treks to Kilimanjaro. Drive south on the A23 road for about 30 minutes until you reach the town of Mweka. From there, follow the signs to Mweka Gate, which is the starting point for the Mweka Route leading to Uhuru Peak. The road is well-marked, but be cautious of potholed sections. Parking is available at the Mweka Gate, but ensure you arrive early to secure a spot as it can fill up quickly.

Public Transportation
To reach Mweka Gate using public transportation, take a daladala (local minibus) from Moshi to Mweka. The ride should take about 45 minutes and cost around 2,000 TZS. Once you arrive at Mweka, you can either walk or hire a taxi to the Mweka Gate, which is approximately 5 kilometers away. The taxi fare should be around 10,000 TZS. Upon reaching the gate, you will need to pay a park entry fee, which is typically around 1,000 TZS for Tanzanian residents and can be higher for international tourists.

After reaching the Mweka Gate, you will embark on a multi-day trek to Uhuru Peak. It is highly recommended to go with a registered guide or tour company, as the trails can be challenging and navigation can be difficult. The trek to Uhuru Peak typically takes about 5-6 days, depending on your chosen route and acclimatization schedule.
