You can take a local taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to Machame Gate (about 30-40 minutes drive). The Machame Gate is where you will register for the hike, and it is essential to have a guide with you for the ascent. Once you start your hike, follow the established trails. The hike to Stella Point takes approximately 6-8 hours, depending on your pace and acclimatization. Along the way, you'll traverse through various landscapes, including rainforest and moorland. Remember to stay hydrated and take breaks as needed.
Hiking
Ensure you start your hike early in the morning to reach Stella Point at a good time to enjoy the views. The route to Stella Point is well-marked, and your guide will lead you through the different sections of the trail. You'll pass landmarks such as the Barranco Wall and the Karanga Valley. As you approach Stella Point, keep an eye on your altitude and listen to your body to avoid altitude sickness. Once you reach Stella Point, take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding area and the summit of Kilimanjaro.
Hiking
After spending time at Stella Point, if you're feeling well, you may continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro, which is just a short distance away. However, if you prefer to descend, follow the same route back down with your guide. The descent will take about 3-4 hours to return to your starting point at Machame Gate. Make sure to take in the beautiful scenery on your way back and take breaks as needed. Once back at Machame Gate, you can arrange for transportation back to Moshi.
