Car
If you are driving from any location in the Rift Valley, you will first want to head towards the town of Narok. From Narok, you will take the C12 road heading towards the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The distance from Narok to the reserve is approximately 100 kilometers (about 62 miles) and can take around 2 hours, depending on road conditions. The last part of the journey will involve driving on unpaved roads, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Keep an eye out for road signs directing you to the Maasai Mara. Be prepared to pay an entrance fee at the gate upon arrival.

To reach Maasai Mara via public transportation, start by taking a matatu (shared taxi) or bus from major towns in the Rift Valley, such as Nakuru or Naivasha, to Narok. The fare typically ranges from 200 to 400 Kenyan Shillings ($2-$4). Once you arrive in Narok, you can board another matatu or arrange for a private shuttle that will take you directly to the Maasai Mara gate. This last leg of the journey may cost around 1000 to 1500 Kenyan Shillings ($10-$15). Note that matatus can fill up quickly, so it’s best to arrive early in the day.
