Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving from Mbeya city, head southeast on the A104 road towards the town of Makambako. After approximately 30 kilometers, turn left onto the road leading to Matamba. Follow this road for about 50 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Kitulo National Park, located at WWCH+96, Matamba. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, as some parts of the road may be unpaved and bumpy.

  • Public Transportation - Bus

    From Mbeya, you can take a bus to Makambako from the main bus terminal. The journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours and costs approximately 10,000 TZS. Once in Makambako, look for a daladala (local minibus) heading to Matamba. The daladala ride will cost around 5,000 TZS and take about 45 minutes. Inform the driver that you are going to Kitulo National Park; they will drop you at the nearest point to the park entrance.

  • Public Transportation - Taxi

    For a more direct option, you can hire a taxi from Mbeya to Kitulo National Park. This is the quickest method, taking approximately 1.5 hours. The cost will vary, but you should expect to pay between 80,000 to 100,000 TZS. Ensure you negotiate the fare before starting your journey.

    Once you arrive at the nearest drop-off point from Matamba, you will need to walk approximately 5 kilometers to reach the entrance of Kitulo National Park. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the park entrance located at WWCH+96. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, especially if visiting during the warmer months.
