Private Car
If you're traveling by private car, first navigate to the main park road leading through Tarangire National Park. From the park entrance, follow the main road for about 15 kilometers. Look for signs indicating Public Campsite no 1, which is located near the Tarangire River. The campsite coordinates are approximately -3.77922 latitude and 35.9646944 longitude. The entrance to the campsite will be on your left, marked with a sign.

Public Transportation
To reach Public Campsite no 1 using public transportation, start by taking a dala-dala (shared minibus) from Arusha to the Tarangire National Park entrance. This trip usually costs around 30,000 TZS. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you can hire a private vehicle or join a guided tour to reach the campsite. Inform the driver of your destination, and they will take you the additional 15 kilometers to the campsite. Make sure to negotiate the fare with the driver before starting the journey.

Walking or Hiking
For adventurous travelers already within the park, hiking to Public Campsite no 1 is possible if you’re near the Tarangire River. Ensure you have a guide for safety, as wildlife may be present. From the nearest point of interest, follow the riverbank heading southeast for approximately 3 kilometers. This hike may take around 1-2 hours depending on your pace and the terrain. Ensure you have plenty of water and sun protection.
