To reach the Great Baobab, start by renting a car from one of the many rental services available in Stone Town or other major areas. Once you have a vehicle, head northeast on the main road towards Mzambarauni. Follow the signs for Nungwi, but after approximately 30 km, turn left onto the road leading to Mzambarauni. Continue driving for about 10 km until you reach an intersection. Take a right turn at the intersection and drive for another 5 km. The Great Baobab will be on your left, located at 'GGWG+XQ6, Unnamed Road, Mzambarauni'. Ensure you have a GPS or a local map to help navigate, as signage can be limited. The total drive time is approximately 1 hour from Stone Town, depending on traffic.
Public Transportation (Daladala)
From Stone Town, you can take a daladala (local minibus) heading towards Nungwi. Board the daladala at the market area; tickets usually cost around 1,000 TZS. The ride will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Once you reach Nungwi, you will need to switch to another daladala going towards Mzambarauni. The fare for this leg is also around 1,000 TZS. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the Great Baobab, and they will drop you off at the nearest point, which is a short walk from the tree itself. Make sure to check the return schedule for daladalas back to Stone Town, as they can be infrequent.
Taxi
For a more direct and comfortable option, consider hiring a taxi from Stone Town. The taxi fare to the Great Baobab will typically range from 20,000 to 30,000 TZS, depending on your negotiation skills and the time of day. The journey will take roughly 45 minutes. Make sure to agree on the price before starting your trip. The driver should know the location of the Great Baobab, but it is helpful to show them the address: 'GGWG+XQ6, Unnamed Road, Mzambarauni'.
