Car
If you are driving, start from Stone Town, the main area in Zanzibar. Head east on Mkunazini Street then turn left onto the Malindi Road. Continue for about 6 kilometers until you reach the area of the ferry terminal. From there, take a boat to Changu Island, which usually departs every hour. Once you arrive at Changu Island, follow the signs that lead to the Prison. It's a short walk from the dock.
Public Transportation
To visit the Prison by public transport, first, make your way to the Stone Town bus station. Look for a 'Dalla Dalla' (local minibus) heading to the ferry terminal. The fare is usually very affordable. Once you reach the terminal, buy a ticket for a boat to Changu Island. The boats run regularly, and the journey typically takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Changu Island, walk towards the Prison, following the directional signage.
