Walking
If you are starting from the heart of the South Main Arts District, head south on South Main Street. Walk down South Main until you reach the intersection with East G.E. Patterson Avenue. Turn left onto East G.E. Patterson Avenue and continue walking until you reach B.B. King Boulevard. Turn right onto B.B. King Boulevard and walk for a short distance. You will soon see Army Park on your left. The 1866 Memphis Historic Marker is located within Army Park. Look for the marker near the center of the park.

Bicycle
For those who prefer biking, you can rent a bike from one of the bike share stations located in South Main. After picking up your bike, head south on South Main Street. Follow the same route as if you were walking: turn left onto East G.E. Patterson Avenue, then right onto B.B. King Boulevard. The bike ride will take about 5-10 minutes, depending on your pace. Once you reach Army Park, secure your bike at one of the bike racks available. The 1866 Memphis Historic Marker is easily visible in the park.

Public Transit
If you prefer public transportation, the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) provides bus services in the area. You can catch the MATA trolley service which runs through South Main. Board the trolley heading south and get off at the stop closest to Army Park. From there, it’s a short walk into the park where you will find the 1866 Memphis Historic Marker. Note that there is a fare to ride the trolley, which is typically around $1 per ride.
