Getting There

Car
If you're traveling by car, you can reach Oconaluftee Visitor Center by taking US-441 (Newfound Gap Road). From the Gatlinburg area, head south on US-441. Continue on this road for approximately 30 miles, passing through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with beautiful views along the way. The center will be on your left at 1194 Newfound Gap Rd, Cherokee, NC 28719. There is no entrance fee for the visitor center itself, but you may need to pay a fee if you enter other areas of the park.

Public Transportation
Currently, there is no direct public transportation service that takes visitors directly to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. However, you can take a shuttle or bus from nearby towns like Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge to the Smoky Mountains. Once you reach the entrance of the park, you'll need to either walk or arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach the visitor center, which is about 10 miles from the entrance. Be sure to check the local shuttle schedules for the latest information on routes and fares.

For the more adventurous, biking is allowed on park roads. If you are near the Cherokee area, you can bike to Oconaluftee Visitor Center.
