The Ten Commandments Monument: A Historic Symbol in Austin

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the Texas State Capitol, which is located at 1100 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701, head south on Congress Ave towards W 11th St. After about a block, turn left onto W 11th St and walk for about two blocks. You will arrive at the grounds of the Texas State Capitol where the Ten Commandments Monument is located at 1212 Colorado St. The monument is near the entrance of the Capitol grounds, easily visible as you approach.

• Public Transit (Bus)

  From downtown Austin, you can catch a bus that heads towards the Texas State Capitol. Look for the Capital Metro bus routes that service the area, such as Route 1 (North Lamar/South Congress) or Route 7 (Burnet/Manor). Board the bus at a nearby stop and ride until you reach the 'Capitol' stop. Once you disembark, walk east on 15th St towards Colorado St, then turn left on Colorado St; the Ten Commandments Monument will be located on the grounds of the Texas State Capitol.

• Biking

  If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from one of the many bike-sharing stations located throughout downtown Austin. Head towards the Texas State Capitol by biking north on Congress Ave. Upon reaching 11th St, turn left and continue until you reach Colorado St. The Ten Commandments Monument will be on the Capitol grounds, which is a short ride from downtown.
