Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the Golden Triangle area and head south towards Chiang Rai. Take Route 1 (also known as Phaholyothin Road) for about 30 kilometers. Once you reach the intersection near Tha Sai, turn left onto an unnamed road. Follow this road for approximately 5 kilometers until you see signs for Buddha on the Mountain. There is parking available near the site.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a local bus or songthaew from the Golden Triangle to Chiang Rai. Once in Chiang Rai, you can take another songthaew to Tha Sai. Inform the driver you want to go to Buddha on the Mountain. This part of the journey may cost around 40-50 THB. After reaching Tha Sai, you may need to walk approximately 1-2 kilometers to reach the site as the last stretch may not be accessible by vehicle.
Taxi
Alternatively, you can hire a taxi from the Golden Triangle directly to Buddha on the Mountain. This is a more comfortable option, especially in the heat. The taxi fare will likely range from 600-800 THB for a one-way trip, depending on your negotiation skills. Make sure to agree on the price before starting your journey.
